“No one loves you as unconditionally as your beloved pet.”

Preventative Healthcare For Your Family's Best Friend.
At Rivertown Animal Hospital, our underlying philosophy is disease prevention. By providing proactive veterinary care, we strive to be your trusted source of information and offer medical services to help you maintain and enhance your pet’s health and well-being. Preventing common diseases and infections is the most valuable gift for your animal companion. We believe that focusing on high-quality preventive medicine is key to your dog or cat's long, healthy life. Rivertown Animal Hospital is committed to providing individualized medical care. Our approach to each patient is based heavily on diagnostics and patient safety. Rivertown Animal Hospital has invested in on-site diagnostic technologies like laboratory services and radiology, allowing us to find specific problems quickly. With this information we can tailor therapies to produce quicker recoveries from medical conditions and make surgical and anesthetic procedures safer.
In-Clinic Diagnostics - Our laboratory consists of IDEXX analyzers that help give us more information on internal illnesses.
Laser Therapy - With the latest technology we can treat pains, strains, arthritis and much more through laser therapy.
Heartworm Testing - Our tests only take ten minutes, so you can have peace of mind before you leave our clinic.
Surgical Suite - Procedures include pre-anesthetic bloodwork, monitoring patient vital signs and laser therapy post-op to help jumpstart their healing process.
We try to do things differently here at Rivertown Animal Hospital. We want both you and your pet to have a positive experience while in our care. You know valuable and useful information about your pet’s normal activity and health, so communication is key to our approach. We also know that anxious dogs and cats (and maybe pet owners, too) can only benefit from a relaxed atmosphere, a little patience, and positive attention from our team members. We will always advise what’s in your pet’s best interest, even if that means the patient requires more than we can offer in-house. We have excellent relationships with Veterinary Specialists in the area and local animal ICU facilities in the event that your pet needs round-the-clock care or emergency medical attention.
Ectoparasites (parasites found on the coat or in the ears) can greatly affect your pet's day-to-day quality of life. Fleas, ticks, lice, mites, and mosquitoes are prevalent in south Louisiana. Our clinic carries the latest and most effective preventatives in veterinary medicine. Call today for your pet to be evaluated and receive the proper medication for their environment.
Nutrition is as important for pets as it is for people. Many foods available at retail stores derive their nutritional content from grain rather than foods high in protein. Your pet’s weight, skin, and overall well-being are derived from their food. Rivertown Animal Hospital can set up a regimen to help your pet gain or lose weight as needed. Also, special diets are available for those pets with special dietary needs such as diabetes or frequent urinary tract infections. Puppies and kittens should also be on puppy or kitten-formulated diets for their first year to ensure they receive the proper nutrients and calories for healthy growth.
Parasite issues are prominent here in south Louisiana. We follow an aggressive parasite screening program for both heartworm and intestinal parasites. Our minimum recommendations for adult dogs are annual heartworm tests and fecal floatation exams every six months. All cats are de-wormed annually, and the risk level of each feline best determines heartworm testing intervals. As defined by the American Heartworm Society, “Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms living in the arteries of the lungs and occasionally in the right side of the heart of dogs, [and sometimes] cats.” Heartworm disease is preventable. Prevention is simple to administer and is inexpensive compared to heartworm treatment. There are several heartworm preventatives available for your pet. Call or text Rivertown Animal Hospital to schedule an appointment and determine which preventative is right for your pet today!
